Senior IPS Officer Badri Narayan Meena Appointed New IG of Bastar Range

Raipur, June 25, 2026: In a significant administrative and security-related reshuffle, the Chhattisgarh government has appointed senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Badri Narayan Meena as the new Inspector General (IG) of Bastar Range. The state Home Department has issued an official order regarding the appointment. Meena was previously serving at the Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Nava Raipur.
The appointment comes as the current Bastar Range IG, P. Sundarraj, proceeds on Central Deputation. With his departure, the responsibility of overseeing one of the country’s most sensitive security zones has now been entrusted to Meena.

Key Responsibility in Maoist-Affected Region
Bastar Range is considered one of the most strategically important and sensitive police ranges in Chhattisgarh. It comprises the districts of Dantewada, Sukma, Bijapur, Narayanpur, Kanker, Kondagaon, and Bastar, areas that have long been affected by Left-Wing Extremism (LWE).
Although security forces have achieved significant success in anti-Maoist operations in recent years, the region continues to remain a priority area for law enforcement agencies.
As the new IG, Meena will be tasked with strengthening anti-Maoist operations, maintaining law and order, and enhancing coordination and trust between the police and local communities. His leadership is expected to play a crucial role in sustaining the security gains achieved in the region.
Strategic Appointment
Administrative circles view the appointment as an important step toward further strengthening security and governance in Bastar. Meanwhile, outgoing IG P. Sundarraj is credited with leading several major anti-Maoist operations during his tenure and contributing significantly to the state’s security strategy in the region.
The transition in leadership comes at a time when the government is intensifying efforts to consolidate peace and development in the Bastar region.
