Balod Collector Ranu Sahu’s commendable initiative is once again proving to be a lifeline for hundreds of laborers, due to the lockdown implemented for the prevention of Kovid-19 workers of Balod district who are stranded in other states of the country, to help the Collector On the instructions, the district administration is sensitively resolving their ration and housing problems. This effort of the district administration is helping hundreds of laborers trapped in lockdown.
Collector Ranu Sahu said that at present, upon receipt of information about the workers of the district being stuck in different states and needing ration and other help through public representatives and other means, the Collector of the respective districts of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka immediately or Talk was made with the district administration and help was sought for rationing and housing. In the control rooms of the said states, the workers’ name, mobile number was provided. Every laborer is being talked on the phone from the Balod District Control Room. If any laborer is told the problem of ration or housing then immediately the local district administration, NGO. The Volunteer and the concerned district are informed by phone in the control room for help. The collector said that so far a total of 946 laborers have been directly spoken, out of which 570 laborers have been told the problem of ration which has been resolved.
Collector said that out of 486 laborers trapped in Maharashtra, 240 laborers reported problems for food, housing, 10 out of 14 laborers trapped in Andhra Pradesh, 40 out of 51 laborers stranded in Karnataka, three laborers stranded in Uttar Pradesh, 07 stranded in Tamil Nadu. Laborers, 233 out of 292 stranded in Telangana, 18 out of 37 laborers trapped in Gujarat, 05 out of 12 laborers trapped in Delhi, one laborer stranded in Orissa, 03 stranded in Uttarakhand Sector 01 workers and 12 workers of the 19 trapped in the state described the problem for food, housing, which has been resolved.
The collector informed that apart from the chief executive officers of district panchayats, information about migrant laborers and bank account numbers is being obtained from every village. If necessary, after verification from the village level and the laborers, funds will be given from the District Disaster Fund in the bank account of the laborers. Collector said that about four thousand five hundred laborers from the district go to other states for more wages. This year also, according to the Labor Department, about six thousand workers have gone out of the state. According to the data of the Gram Panchayat and Health Department, three thousand three hundred laborers have reached their village on foot and they have been kept in 28 days home isolation, which is also being taken care of by the district administration.
