Mahadev betting app case: Alleged kingpin Saurabh Chandrakar held in Oman on Interpol Red Notice; extradition process likely

Raipur | July 8, 2026: Saurabh Chandrakar, the alleged mastermind behind the Mahadev online betting app, has reportedly been arrested in Oman following an Interpol Red Notice issued at the request of Indian investigating agencies, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Sources said Chandrakar is currently lodged at the high-security Al Khoud Detention Centre in Muscat, while authorities are expected to initiate the legal process for his extradition to India. There has been no official confirmation from Indian agencies on the development so far.
Arrest linked to alleged fake passport use
According to media reports, Chandrakar is facing allegations of entering Oman using forged travel documents and a fake passport. The case is being examined under Omani law, and legal proceedings are underway.
Reports further suggest that Chandrakar has engaged a team of lawyers in Muscat to represent him before local authorities as the extradition process unfolds.
Extradition to India on the cards
Indian agencies are expected to pursue Chandrakar’s extradition after completion of legal formalities in Oman. If extradited, he is likely to be questioned in connection with multiple investigations into the Mahadev betting app syndicate, including allegations of illegal betting operations and financial irregularities.
From Bhilai to the centre of a multi-crore betting probe
A native of Bhilai in Chhattisgarh, Chandrakar reportedly worked at a garment shop before running a juice outlet. He later moved to Dubai in 2019, where he allegedly launched the Mahadev betting platform with associates.
The Mahadev app has been under investigation by multiple Indian agencies over allegations of running a large-scale illegal online betting network and laundering proceeds generated through the operation. The alleged syndicate is believed to have handled transactions worth hundreds of crores of rupees, though investigations are still ongoing.
Lavish Dubai wedding drew national attention
Chandrakar had earlier made headlines for his extravagant wedding in Dubai, which came under the scanner of investigating agencies. Media reports had claimed that nearly ₹200 crore was spent on the celebrations, with several Bollywood celebrities attending the event. Investigators had also alleged that chartered aircraft were used to fly guests from India to Dubai.
Official confirmation awaited
While the reported arrest marks a significant development in the Mahadev betting app investigation, Indian authorities are yet to issue an official statement confirming Chandrakar’s detention in Oman or providing details regarding his extradition.
