According to sources, the CBI team apprehended the accused based on a secret tip-off. Both individuals are alleged to have played an active role in the communal violence that broke out in 2023 and had been absconding for a long time.

With this latest action, the total number of arrests in the case has now reached 12. Sources suggest that the investigation agency may file a final chargesheet soon, and more arrests could follow in the coming days.

What was the Biranpur murder case?

On April 8, 2023, a minor dispute between two children in Biranpur village under the Saja assembly constituency escalated into a violent clash between two communities. During the conflict, a local youth, Bhuvneshwar Sahu, was killed. In response, the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) called for a statewide bandh in Chhattisgarh on April 10, which further intensified the matter. The village witnessed incidents of arson. Just three days later, on April 11, the bodies of two more villagers were found in the Biranpur fields. Following this, there was a strong demand for a CBI probe into the incident. However, the then Congress-led state government dismissed the demand and did not take it seriously.
