Bilaspur, July 30. Prof. Virendra Kumar Saraswat has taken charge as the new Vice-Chancellor of Pt. Sundarlal Sharma (Open) University, Chhattisgarh, with a strong commitment to transform the institution into a nationally recognized model open university. Immediately upon assuming office, he emphasized his focus on improving educational quality, administrative efficiency, and strengthening student services.
Focus on Educational Innovation and Technology-Driven Growth
In a media interaction, Prof. Saraswat outlined his vision centered around academic innovation, technology-based services, and digital infrastructure. His top priorities include promoting research and innovation, launching industry-driven academic programs, and expanding technology-enabled student services. He also stressed the need to bring transparency to the examination system and ensure timely declaration of results.
Academic, Digital, and Physical Infrastructure in Focus
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized comprehensive reforms in three key areas — academics, infrastructure, and digital education. He shared plans to make the university’s curricula more industry-oriented and skill-based to enhance employability.
To strengthen digital education, the university will develop an AI-enabled Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring quality education reaches even the remotest parts of Chhattisgarh. Virtual classrooms, mobile applications, and e-governance will also be enhanced for better efficiency and access.
Effective Implementation of NEP 2020 and Future Roadmap
Highlighting the university’s efforts in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Prof. Saraswat said that initiatives like the multiple entry-exit system, Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), interdisciplinary learning, and skill-based programs are already underway. The university is also focusing on developing high-quality learning materials in local languages and strengthening faculty development programs.
Digital Innovation, MOOCs, and Global Collaboration
The Vice-Chancellor announced plans to offer more courses on national platforms like SWAYAM and NPTEL. He also revealed that the university aims to collaborate with international institutions on contemporary themes such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, and Sustainable Development.
Special Strategy for Research, Industry Connect, and Placements
To promote research activities, efforts will be made to secure “12B” status for the university. Theme-based research projects, funding from national agencies, and quality publications will be encouraged.
To boost industry engagement, the university plans to partner with MSMEs, startups, and leading companies. An ‘Industry-Academia Interface Cell’ will be established to facilitate internships, live projects, and placement opportunities for students. Additionally, the university will launch skill development and certification programs to prepare students for the dynamic job market.
